Frequently asked questions.

What is clinical psychology?

Clinical psychology involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions and psychological difficulties. Clinical psychologists use evidence-based psychological therapies to help people cope with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues.

Are you registered with the HCPC?

Yes, I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which is the regulatory body for clinical psychologists in the UK. You can verify my registration on the HCPC website.

What issues do you work with?

I work with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, stress management, grief and loss, low self-esteem, and life transitions. During our initial consultation, we can discuss whether I'm the right fit for your specific needs.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client's needs, which may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), trauma-focused therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), or Narrative Therapy. We'll discuss the most appropriate approach for you during our initial consultation.

How long are sessions, and how many will I need?

Sessions typically last 50-60 minutes. The number of sessions varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions), while others prefer longer-term support. We'll discuss this during your consultation.

What are your fees?

Please see the Services and Fees page.

Do you accept insurance?

I am registered with Alliance Health Corporate, Bupa, Aviva, Vitality, AXA PPP, and Willis Towers Watson. If you have private medical insurance, please check with your provider whether clinical psychology is covered under your policy and obtain pre-authorisation if required.

Are sessions available online or in person?

[Specify your offering - e.g., "I offer both in-person sessions at my practice in [location] and secure video sessions for those who prefer online therapy or are unable to attend in person."]

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, everything discussed in sessions is confidential, with rare exceptions required by law (such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or safeguarding concerns). I'll discuss confidentiality fully during our first meeting.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Please see my cancellation policy [link] for full details.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

I offer limited evening appointments on Mondays and Thursdays, and Saturday afternoon appointments. Please enquire about current availability.

Do you provide reports or letters?

I can provide reports for insurance purposes, letters for GPs, or formal assessment reports. Additional fees may apply for report writing, which we can discuss if needed.

What if I'm in crisis?

If you're experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact your GP, call NHS 111, attend A&E, or call the Samaritans on 116 123. I provide scheduled therapy sessions and cannot offer crisis support or emergency services.
